- Turmeric, Haldi or Curcuma Longa is a member of the Ginger family. It is an erect, terrestrial, perennial herbaceous plant with creeping underground rhizomes. The leaves are simple, and leaf stalk can reach up to 75 cms to 1 meter, grows from rhizomes. Turmeric has large leaves that give a tropical look to any garden, easy to grow, and one rhizome can increase to hundreds more over the course of a few years with little to no effort.
- Plant small rhizomes or pieces about 2 inches deep. Water and keep the soil moist but not soaking wet until they sprout. Transplant if necessary once the plants are at least 2 inches tall. Keep them spaced about 16 inches apart. Thin if necessary to give them plenty of room to breath and flourish.
