Turnip or salgam is a root vegetable that has a creamy white colour body with a purple top. This vegetable belongs to Brassicaceae family. Although perceived as a European staple, this vegetable is also popular among Indians due its health benefits.
1. Turnip Pancake
Ingredients: 2-3 green chilies, 2 grated turnips, 3 eggs, salt as per taste, ¼ tsp black pepper, ¼ tsp red chili powder, ¼ tsp coriander powder, ¼ tsp ginger, and garlic powder, and 1 sliced onion
Cooking Steps: Mix all ingredients together. Take some oil in a pan and add this mixture to the hot oil. Spread the mixture well and cover the pan with lid. Cook it on both sides for 2-3 minutes. Serve this lip-smacking recipe with some ketchup or chutney.
2. Turnip Fries
Ingredients: Turnip - 2, 1 ½ tbsp. oil, 2 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp paprika, and salt
Cooking steps: Cut turnip into planks and slice them into small pieces as you do for potato fries. Mix all ingredients and keep them aside for 10 minutes. Deep fry them in a pan. A tasty snack is ready. Eat them with some onion chutney for a better experience.
