The unique production process involves continuously casting molten iron through a water-cooled graphite die, resulting in a fine-grain microstructure. This tightly controlled molding process ensures a consistently uniform metal free of common defects like porosity caused by shrinkage and trapped gases. The use of Versa-Bar leads to lower costs and eliminates the need for tooling changes, as scrap generated from foundry defects is virtually eliminated. The unique microstructure and well-dispersed graphite in Versa-Bar improve machining rates and increase tool life, reducing per part machining costs. Versa-Bar can also be substituted for higher-priced or harder machining materials, offering improved performance due to its metallurgical composition. The high graphite content serves as a natural self-lubricant, while the tiny recesses in the graphite flakes or spheres retain additional lubricants, resulting in longer-lasting parts. Versa-Bar grades are available to meet various physical requirements, including high tensile strengths, bearing strengths, and wear strengths.
