About Seller: Blackburn Manufacturing Company specializes in the production and fabrication of plastic flags attached to wire or plastic PVC staffs. These flags are commonly utilized by various industries such as construction, surveying, public works, utilities, landscaping, soil conservation, farming, forestry, gardening, and landscaping for the purpose of identifying underground water, gas, electric, and cable conduits or pipes, as well as for posting signage and delineating construction areas.
Established in 1953 by E. A. �Bud� Blackburn in Royal, Nebraska, the company began in a small family homestead basement. Bud's cousin, who worked in the surveying industry, approached him with the idea of attaching cloth or paper to a wire or wooden stick. Bud, an engineer, developed a machine to glue vinyl flags to wire staffs, despite juggling this project with running the family farm. Eventually, the first automated flag machine was completed, and with the help of his two sons, the company fulfilled its first million flag order.
Over the years, Blackburn Manufacturing Company expanded its operations, moving to Neligh, NE in 1957. Annual production continued to increase, and in 1980, Bud retired, passing the reins to his son Jim. Under Jim's leadership, the company experienced significant growth, expanding to include a production facility in Cambria, California, managed by his brother Bob. Jim's daughter Jennifer joined the company in 1994, working her way up to become President in 2004.
Celebrating 50 years of success in 2003, the company introduced new product lines, including BMC marking sign cards and polyethylene flags. Despite advancements in technology, all flag machines are still produced in-house based on Bud Blackburn's original blueprints. Today, Blackburn Manufacturing Company employs 50 individuals in Neligh and 5 in Paso Robles, CA, exporting their flags to numerous countries worldwide.
