The development of our sight glass products was prompted by plant explosions in the late 1940s and early 1950s, which were linked to the failure of conventional or sandwich type sight glasses in a major chemical facility. Engineer Gene LeRoy was tasked with creating a sight glass that would maintain its integrity and not rupture or blow out even under extreme pressure and high temperature conditions. After extensive experimentation, he discovered the concept of peripherally sealing the lens assembly instead of vertically clamping and sealing the sight glass against the top and bottom lens gaskets.
