About Seller: Johnson Bros. was founded by Edwin Johnson, Sr. in 1947 when he decided to venture into entrepreneurship. He began by constructing the company's first roll forming machine in his basement, which is now in storage. Edwin offered his five brothers an equal share in the business if they matched his life savings of $700. Only one brother, Harold Johnson, accepted the offer, leading to the establishment of Johnson Bros. The initial machine had to be disassembled, moved from the basement, and reassembled in Edwin's garage after testing. As production increased and noise became an issue, Edwin sought new premises. He found an uninsulated, dirt-floor garage in Chicago that had previously been a stable. Edwin and Harold insulated the garage/plant, set up a small office, and installed a small stove for heating during cold months. Over the years, Johnson Bros. has transitioned from focusing on lockseam and openseam tubing to producing a variety of shapes for industrial applications, and now utilizes sophisticated computer-controlled in-line fabrication. The company works with various metals, prefinished or plain, ranging in thickness from .004 in. to .188 in., and their products are distributed across the continental U.S., Canada, Mexico, and parts of Europe. With sales reaching seven million, Johnson Bros. now employs 36 full-time and six part-time workers. While outsourcing has posed challenges for American manufacturers and Johnson Bros. in recent years, the company's future appears promising.
