About Seller: Johnson Bros. was founded by Edwin Johnson, Sr., who embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in 1947 by constructing the company's inaugural roll forming machine in his basement, which is currently stored. He proposed to his five brothers an equal share in the business if they matched his life savings of $700. Only one brother, Harold Johnson, accepted the offer, hence the establishment of Johnson Bros. Once the first machine was completed and tested, it had to be disassembled, moved from the basement, and reassembled in Edwin's garage. As production of small orders commenced, neighbors raised concerns about noise levels, leading Edwin to seek new premises. Subsequently, an uninsulated, dirt-floor garage in Chicago, formerly a stable, was secured. Edwin Sr. and Harold insulated the garage/plant, constructed a small office, and installed heating for the cold months. Johnson Bros. has evolved from initially focusing on lockseam and openseam tubing to producing a variety of shapes for industrial applications, and now utilizes sophisticated computer-controlled in-line fabrication. The company specializes in forming prefinished or plain metals of various types, ranging in thickness from .004 in. to .188 in., and supplying these products to customers across the continental U.S., Canada, Mexico, and parts of Europe. Sales have reached seven million, with a team of 36 full-time and six part-time employees. The challenges posed by outsourcing have impacted American manufacturers, including Johnson Bros., in recent years. However, the outlook for the future is promising.
