Established in 1932 by Ralph and Clyde Garthwait in a two-car garage with $400 each, the company initially focused on producing broom caps. Working tirelessly with 15- and 16-hour days, the firm quickly grew, reaching annual shipments of $275,000 by 1939. Following Ralph's passing that same year, Helen Garthwait took over his share of the business, keeping it afloat during World War II when Ralph's heirs, John and Joseph, were called into service. This history of the Garthwait enterprise is a blend of perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to customer service that has led to consistent growth, challenging negative perceptions of the capabilities of the United States industry. Today, Line Manufacturing, under the leadership of third-generation members Bruce Garthwait, Joseph Garthwait, Jr., and Gregory Garthwait, operates out of a 20,000 square foot facility in Wolcott, Connecticut.
