About Seller: The achievements of the Garthwait family play a significant role in illustrating why America has always respected the strong work ethic of the Connecticut Yankee. By infusing entrepreneurship into the traditional machining skills historically linked with New England, they have successfully developed Line Manufacturing, Inc. into a reliable provider of specialized precision metal stampings. In 1932, Ralph and Clyde Garthwait established Line Manufacturing in a two-car garage with the necessary skills and an investment of $400 each. Their initial production included broom caps, and they worked tirelessly with 15- to 16-hour days, including weekends. By 1939, the company's shipments had grown to $275,000 annually with just one full-time employee, leading to the construction of a 1,000-square-foot facility nearby. Upon Ralph's passing in the same year, Clyde exited the business, selling his ownership to Helen Garthwait, Ralph's widow. When World War II called Ralph's sons, John and Joseph, into the military, Helen Garthwait took charge to ensure the company continued to operate during their absence. The history of the Garthwait enterprise is a blend of perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to customer service that has facilitated consistent expansion over time, challenging the prevailing negative perceptions of the United States industry's capability to establish world-class operations. Presently, under the leadership of third-generation members Bruce Garthwait, Joseph Garthwait, Jr., and Gregory Garthwait, Line Manufacturing is situated on a company-owned site spanning 20,000 square feet in Wolcott, Connecticut.
